It's true...

Daddy's can be very good at making hair beautiful!

Meet our new friend, Stripedy Tiger. We found this very cute frog yesterday in our front yard. He lived very happily in Jadyn's bug catcher all day long with a few weeds and some water to play in. Then the girls let him go back to his bed in the woods before going to bed themselves. Jadyn had tears in her eyes, but tried to stay strong so that Stripedy wouldn't be sad, too. She has now decided that her bug catcher can only be used for frogs now. Bugs are just not good enough.

A True Firefighter's Daughter

We went out to a mexican restaurant Sunday afternoon with some friends after a birthday party. Karina was sitting next to me and coloring on her napkin while we were waiting for our food to arrive.

Soon, our waiter came and brought out the food, including a steaming hot plate of fajitas to our friend Alex sitting across from me. A few of us leaned in close to enjoy the enticing aroma and jealously admire the fajitas, but when I turned back to see if Karina's food had arrived, she was laying totally flat on her chair and staring wide-eyed up at the food.

"Sit up at the table, Honey," I said, feeling a bit frustrated at her poor display of table manners.

"No, Daddy!" she whispered with a dead serious expression on her face, still staring at the steam rising from the fajitas. "There's smoke! We need to stay low!"

I busted up laughing, and at the same time felt very proud that my daughter remembered our lessons and fire drills as we practiced what we would do if there was smoke or fire in the house.

"It's okay, Honey," I reassured her, "There is no fire. Just some hot food."

We're still here~

Sorry it's been a while. We've had a few busy weeks!

Mark has been able to go back to work doing light-duty work in the Training Division. It's been a readjustment to get used to a regular work-week schedule again instead of working 24 hour shifts. Having a desk job is another adjustment, but he's working with some great people and having a good time. The girls miss seeing Daddy in the mornings and are trying to adjust to only seeing him for an hour or two before going to bed on weeknights.

His knee is progressing very well. We're one month past surgery now and the doctor is very pleased with the progress so far. In two more weeks Mark will be able to discard his brace and begin walking normally again. Physical therapy weekly and lots of home exercises are slowly but surely bringing back the muscles and flexibilty around the knee. Hopefully only 2 or 3 more months before he can go back to working on the Fire Engine again!

Jadyn has only 3 more weeks of school before she's done for the summer. She just finished up spring soccer last weekend and had her team party to celebrate the season. We had a great time and can't wait to play again next fall. As soon as the season ended, she started up Cheer again. Once summer comes around we'll be doing swimming lessons, too! Busy, busy, busy~ We've also been working more on reading and spelling. Our girl has a very sharp mind and is quickly picking it up and enjoying every minute of it. She's also started piano lessons with her aunt Marcella. This is a picture of her with her soccer coaches Brian and Lynae.

Karina has conquered the Potty Training beast. She's doing great and very excited to be wearing Big Girl underwear like her big sister. She had her three year Well-Child checkup this week and passed with flying colors. She's officially 3 ft, 2-1/2 inches tall and still growing. All her clothes are getting too small again and she's been very hungry - time to break out some more hand-me-downs from her big sister. Jadyn and Karina are wearing only one size apart in shirts - crazy!

Julie heads out next weekend for a Women's Retreat with our church. She's very excited! She has dilligently taken over the yard responsibilities with Mark on the disabled list - mowing, weeding, and all those fun activities. At least we've had a few nice days mixed in there to be outside! MOPS and Thursday night group have been great, too! We've had the chance to help out a few neighbors lately with yard and house work and continue getting to know the people we're living with.

This feels like a Christmas letter, but we've been so busy we haven't gotten to update the blog lately and wanted to give you a quick recap of recent events. We'll try to post some pictures and a few funny stories this weekend. Love you all!
