A Date with Daddy

The girls were very excited that they got to have "just Daddy time" tonight while I got a much needed night out with a neighbor and about 100 other women.

Before they left, Jadyn came running in hardly able to contain herself shouting: "We get to go to Old Stones, we get to go to Old Stones! Daddy is taking us to my favorite place- Old Stones!"

I just had to laugh at her. She meant to say Cold Stone- the very yummy ice cream place.

But no matter what you want to call it, it is still a great treat!

Ever wondered what really goes on in a 4 year old's brain?

While we were eating dinner tonight, we were talking about the day’s events and the things we were thankful for, as is the usual conversation around our table.

When we asked Karina what her favorite part of the whole day was, she thought for a long time, then answered: “petting the puppies!” Jadyn and I looked at each other and couldn’t help but laugh. There was no part of our day that even remotely involved puppies. I asked Karina when it was that she actually got to pet them, to which she quickly replied: “my pretend day!”

Jadyn, of course, not to be outdone by her little sister, went with the pretend day scenario. We ended up coming up with what our perfect pretend day would look like. Here are Jadyn’s words:

“First we would get up and get dressed. Then we would have breakfast- ice cream, cookies, and milk. We would take our dishes to the counter and the sink. Then we would go pet our puppies that live with us. Karina was 30, old enough for a dog. (We have a standing agreement that we can’t get a dog unless everyone in our house is old enough to help take care of it.) I was old enough, too.

We had 100 puppies! That is the perfect number to have when you are old enough. The one named ‘Popcorn’ was my favorite. He was a boy with rainbow colors. ‘Spray Bottle’ was our other favorite. She was a girl that was pink and white and had a rainbow tail.

Then the puppies had naptime. They were so tired.

We went outside to play in our swimming pool filled with noodles and spaghetti sauce! We got all dirty! We went back inside and the puppies licked us all off so we were all clean again.

Then we had some elephants like ‘Elmer’ (a book we read often about a very colorful elephant) outside. We had a big yard so the elephants could run around a lot. And we grew some blueberries and they were rainbow colored just like Elmer and Popcorn.

Our dogs were really fun- they were the best part of our pretend day and our imagination.”

House progress

We got to go to our official "frame walk" today. All of the stuff inside our walls is completed.(plumbing, electric, gas, heat, etc.) Everything looked great except for a couple of very minor changes that they were happy to fix. It is kind of nice to be able to see where things are inside your walls before you move in.

A big thank you to Angie, our great neighbor, for watching the girls for us this morning so we could both go and see the progress.

Only 7 1/2 weeks left!

Karina's wisdom for Molly

"No thank you, Molly. Don't eat my toes. They aren't food for you, silly Twinkles! Your food is in Molly's bowl."

Cheetos... but not the kind you'd want to eat!

We were working in the garage today while Jadyn was at school. Karina was playing in the yard when she came running in and excitedly announced, "Daddy - I found a cheeto. Come look!"

With a thought of disgust and panic, I quickly instructed her that she shouldn't eat a cheeto that she found on the ground, and Karina turned and gave me a puzzled look as if she were saying, "Well... duh! Why would I ever eat something off the ground?" (Of course, as parents we know the truth about that one...)

I followed her around to the side of the house as she took me to see the treasure she had found. As she crouched down and pointed, I leaned over and saw the "cheeto." I smiled and had to laugh - her "cheeto" was a little, black "beetle." I guess they sound enough alike in her mind - cheeto, beetle - it's all the same, isn't it?

Well... now I know why I got the look, "Silly Daddy, now why would I ever eat a cheeto?"

So the moral of this story is... if Karina ever offers you a Cheeto, make sure you ask for the orange ones!

First Day of School!

Can you believe it's already time for school to start!? Jadyn was so excited to be back at her preschool and see her teacher's and friends again. This year she'll get to go three days a week!

It's Christmas... well, sort of...

Here's our house, all wrapped up!

Camping out

Somehow, the summer went by and we didn't get a chance to go camping. So...we decided to do it in our backyard tonight!
We had lots of stories, popcorn and even pink marshmallows! (Only girls could find those at the store!)

Daddy and Karina caught a little cuddle time before getting ready to part for the night.

Just Jadyn and Daddy are staying outside tonight. Good night guys! Have fun!
