A little Pun goes a long way
Jadyn is sitting with Julie and Karina right now and going over her spelling/reading word lists for school. She came across the word 'pun'...
Jadyn: Mommy, what's a pun?
Daddy: A pun is a joke like Grandpa tells.
Jadyn: Which one?
Daddy: Here's an example - What did the cow say to the other cow when he wanted to sit down?
Jadyn: I don't know
Daddy: Mooooooooooove over!
Jadyn & Karina: laughing
Daddy: See - the 'pun' part is the Moooooo in move. The answer is 'move over', but it's a pun because you say 'Mooooooooove over.'
Karina: Yeah. It wouldn't be a pun if the cow said, 'Si-iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-t down'.
I don't know if it translates as funny when you read it, but the way she didn't skip a beat and just blurted it out so matter-of-factly had us rolling on the floor. She's so funny and doesn't even try hard to be - we love it!

May Picnic
It was another beautiful, warm day today. After church, the girls wanted to eat their lunches outside, so they sat at their table under the "sun" umbrella and enjoyed their chicken nuggets, cheese, crackers, and milk in their matching dresses.

Swimming Again
The girls started swimming lessons last night. Jadyn has had lessons several times, so she took to the water like a shark. She remembered all her tricks, floating very well, bobbing well, and working hard to swim like a pro. It's been a while (last summer) since we had lessons, so we put her in a more basic class to review, and she's doing great.
Karina, on the other hand, has been very tentative in the water, and this was her first official lesson. Needless to say, we were a little aprehensive about how she would do, even to the point of resigning ourselves to paying for lessons and calling it a success even if she never really got in the water. But she surprised us both - getting in quickly, warminig up to her teacher well, and even letting her teacher pull her around the pool on her front and back.
Way to go, Karina and Jadyn!
